2019 was not an exceptional year for Bali nightlife. Many

venues closed, and the late-night underground scene really

took a hit with Deejay Café, Pyramid and Jenja closing

their doors and even the great Sky Garden eventually

coming to its knees and still struggling to find its feet again.

Many restaurants also closed down and were boarded up.

The changing face of Bali was more evident than ever

this year, with Canggu and especially the Batu Bolong

area surging with tourists and new ventures, while more

traditional hot spots like Kuta being hit for six and mostly

out of the park. Seminyak still has a thriving nightlife and

especially around the Kayu Aya and Petitenget areas. The

real upmarket of Bali entertainment is still only found in

Seminyak. Canggu has basically taken over the Kuta mantel

of the dress-down dress-code. Beach clubs too have had a

great influence on Bali’s nightlife, or should I say daylife.

The massive venues that now line the beaches seem to grab

most of the people and send them to bed rather early. I

suppose this is the greatest point of all, it would seem the

punters are becoming more health conscious and dare I say

it, the nightlife too. The somewhat grimy undercarriage of

the Bali night world has slowly been dismantled over the

past couple of years. For better or for worse, I will leave

that decision to you. There are still some around but you

will have to DM me for that info.

The Beat has been around 20 years from the beginning of

next year and we are posting old pics from over the years

on our IG account. Tune in and reminisce. Also check for

the latest shows around the traps on the instagram and

thebeatbali.com.

Happy New Year to all our friends and clients around the

island. May 2020 bring you all health, wealth and plenty of

merriment!
