WELCOME to the first edition of FoodieS Bali! Bali has long been in our sights. The food and beverage scene of the Island has exploded in the past few years. Bali is a paradise for us foodies. Whatever your palate desires, whatever budget you have, you can find it on the Island. Not only is Bali the Island of the Gods, we can safely say it is the island of foodies!

Our inaugural issue pays tribute to the men and women who have helped put Bali on the map as a food destination. On our cover is the team from the Locavore group. I will come out and say that they are the trailblazers when it comes to food. Restaurant Locavore is #21 this year on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, and has been on the list for the past three years. Their other venues Restaurant Nusantara, The Night Rooster, LocaLAB, Locavore ToGo and soon Local Parts all follow the locavore ethos and are widely successful and cater to many Bali visitors and locals hungry for excellent food and drink. Next we have chefs Ben Cross and Stephen Moore of Mejekawi at KuDeTa are attracting diners for their excellently prepared and creative comfort dishes, share with us a technique to air dry fish, keeping it fresh longer. Our only frontierswoman, Alanna Agnew of Lunafood at Luna2 has been cooking for over 20 years. She brings a tinge of funk and modernism to the food at Luna2. And Kieran Morland of Sangsaka, his modern Indonesian dishes stick closely to traditional flavors while he cooks and smokes all of his dishes using different kinds of firewood.

This issue also sees us collaborating with the Ubud Food Festival which comes back for it’s fourth installment on April 13-15. Bigger and better, our partnership with #UFF18 is stronger with FoodieS doing a number of special events throughout the Festival.

FoodieS Bali will strive to be the Island’s premier source of food stories and news, and as we start our food journey, please bare with us and let us know what you think of the issue. We would love to hear from you.
